Provision Interview By: Ultimo Misterio September 27th 2006
|
UM: When & how did Provision start?
Breye 7x: Provision began in November of 2000 and was the result of former founding member
Leslie Hyman’s determination to start a new progressive dance / synthpop project with me.
Leslie also hired on her friend Matt Coker to complete the initial line up.
UM: Who is in Provision now?
Breye 7x: Myself (Breye 7x) on vocals. Carlos Covarrubias on bass guitar.
Jen Foxx on synthesizers and electronic percussion, and Randon Harris on
synthesizers and electronic percussion
UM: How can you describe your music & which are your principal influences?
Breye 7x: We are self described as Electronic Dance Music with an Edge but have been called
everything from Synthpop to EBM, industrial dance and even Darkwave. Our influences come
from a large variety of bands and artists as well as the things in our individual lives. We like Red
Flag, Psyche, The Human League and Seabound. We’re also into Cetu Javu, Anything Box, the Pet
Shop Boys, and Melotron among many others. But I’d say check out our bio pages on our official
website at www.Provision-Musik.net to see what each of us is really into.
UM: Could you tell us about the process of composition, how do you get the inspiration and how
do the members of the band in that process?
Breye 7x: It always differs from member to member and from album to album. We are inspired by
many different things, such as real life experiences. We’re inspired by books we read, and often
write about fictional situations that we could see happening in the world around us. There is no
solid process for writing with us. Sometimes it starts with lead synthesizer parts and lyrics, and
sometimes it starts with percussion and bass lines. I wish I could elaborate more, but I think it’s
really magical how things come about. It’s always just flowed, and felt natural. We never force
anything with Provision when it comes to music creation.
UM: Tell us about the concerts, in what festivals have you performed and who did you share the
stage with?
Breye 7x: Oh wow to many to list! We haven’t done to many festivals although we’ve performed
at Synthcon II, Gothcon II, The ADD Synthfest in 2004, 2005, & 2006, and numerous other small
regional synth festivals. We have performed with Red Flag, Anything Box, Cosmicity, Imperative
Reaction, The Human League, Cause & Effect, Icon of Coil, System Syn, The Cruxshadows,
Assemblage 23, God Module, B!Machine, Cesium_137, and Moulin Noir, just to name a few.
UM: Have you performed out of The USA?
Breye 7x: We have yet to perform outside of the U.S.A. but are eager to perform in Peru and
Costa Rica both, where we already have fans.
We’re trying to get our name out in Peru as much as possible to hopefully come and perform for
our fans there in 2007.
UM: How do you see the USA synthpop scene, compare with the European scene?
Breye 7x: I believe the American scene is just a strong as the European scene and has just as
many, if not more bands. Things are different in the U.S.A. than they are in Europe in that the live
shows in Europe seem to be bigger and of course there are more festivals. Provision would really
like to tour South America though, and are very interested in the scene in places like Peru, Brazil,
and Costa Rica where we already have a fans.
UM: There is a controversy about synth bands which some people say don’t really perform live,
what do you think about that?
Breye 7x: Provision has always performed as many live parts as possible on stage. We've
constantly fought against the stigma that many electronic acts face as credible musicians who
really perform Live. Provision's opposition of Synth bands who prefer to perform "Fake To DAT"
shows, has often caused controversy in online forums and open debates. But no matter what
some other acts choose to do, Provision will always stand behind the fact that it is a band in
every since of the word. We do not agree with synth bands who fake their shows.
UM: Since your debut with “Innocence” in 2002, until “The Consequence” now in 2006 how do
you see the future of Provision?
Breye 7x: We feel our new album The Consequence, is our best release yet.
And I hope that next year we will be able to put out our DVD, and get to tour the U.S. and South
America to give everyone a chance to hear our new material along with our classic favourites. The
future is very bright for us and we’re excited to have made it as far as we have. We only have our
fans to thank for it!
UM: Do you know something about the Synthpop scene in South America?
Breye 7x: We know that Synthpop is loved very much in South America and we have heard and
seen music video of synthpop and electronic acts performing in South America. Provision would
love to come and perform anywhere that we can in South America for our fans, and we’d like to
meet new fans and people who love the style of music we play. We know there are some great
acts coming out of South America such as Ultimo Misterio, and Silica Gel, as well as many others
that we are big fans of.
UM: Would you like to perform in Peru one day?
Breye 7x: Of course we’d love to come and perform alongside any other great Synthpop acts in
Peru that would join us. We are excited to possibly come one day, and hope for the chance when
we can perform a live show and meet our fans in Peru!!
UM: Finally, could you send a message for the fans of Provision and synthpop in Peru?
Breye: Please check us out our official website at www.Provision-Musik.net or at www.myspace.
com/Provision and tell your friends about us, if you like what you hear. To our fans in Peru, We
love You, and hope to come down very soon to perform for you and meet all of you in person.
Thank You so much for all of your support of our music! And mucho thanx to Ultimo Misterio for
the chance to do this interview and speak to our fans in Peru!!!
